I Dig You

This card is part of Studio Els in Scrapbooking.com Magazine, April 2014 issue, along with more spring projects from other designers.

The stamp set is Delightful Dogs #2 from Inky Antics and it's filled with adorable dog images & several sentiments.  I used Real Red for the backing card with dog patterned paper, red washi tape & two dies from the Katie Label Pivot Card that I have stamped my sentiment onto.

Too cute!  That sweet little dog is staring up at his bone tree wishing a bone would fall off.  I saw this stamp set & wanted it just for this sentiment  "Sittin' & thinkin' about you!" - perfect for Karen Burniston's Garden Bench.

I cut the cloud patterned paper at the same time as I cut the base card so I know that it will fit perfectly on my card.  You don't have to worry about the dies cutting through 2 layers of card stock, they cut like a charm.  I die cut the All Seasons Tree using Early Espresso Core'dinations & the foliage from Kiwi Kiss.  I made a cover for the bench by cutting a tan piece of paper with the Garden Bench die then cutting it out in 4 spots (top & bottom of the arms) to create a bench cover that I can glue over the top of the white bench on my base card.  I used the grass die that's included in the Garden Bench set to die cut several pieces of grass.  I glued a line of grass all along the fold of the card & pop dotted one in front of the tree.  I sponged Peeled Paint Distress Ink onto my white base bottom portion.  I used the Katie Label Pivot Card dies for my sentiments.

I stamped the bones onto Whisper White using Baked Brown Sugar ink, then fussy cut them & used a Stampin' Write Marker to trace around the edges of the bones to hide some white areas due to imperfect cutting.  I stamped the dog on Whisper White using Black Tuxedo Memento ink & colored using Spectrum Noir markers.

Elizabeth Craft Designs' Desiner Challenge - Flowers

I cut my base card at 5.5 x 8.5 from Regal Rose, added a layer of Basic Black & then Whisper White covered with Double Sided Adhesive....and that's where the magic happens.  Take a piece of Whisper White & a piece of Double Sided Adhesive cut to the same size, remove the backing on the DSA & stick it to the Whisper White.  Die cut 4 of each size from the Rose #799 die from Black Velvet Adhesive Sheets.  Remove the release sheet & now you have a sticky surface to stick the Rose die cuts to.  Now you can cover the entire Whisper White with Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, shake off excess & polish the glitter in with your finger.
After you've polished it, the glitter really sparkles & you're ready to color.  To color, I used Stampin' Write Markers in Daffodil Delight, Crushed Curry, Peach Parfait, Pink Pirouette & Melon Mambo.  This is the first time I have tried using Stampin' Write Markers & I think they worked great but took a little longer to dry than alcohol based markers.

It was hard to capture all the glittery goodness of this card - BUT believe me that it IS very glittery!  After I finished coloring the roses, I added a strip of Melon Mambo Scallop Dots Ribbon to the bottom.  The sentiment is from the stamp set called Too Kind & it's stamped on a scallop oval from Karen Burniston's Oval Accordion Card die.  To get the yellow in the center & keep the edges white, simply put the die back over your die cut & sponge with Daffodil Delight Classic Ink.

Here's a close up of all the beautiful Cool Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter.  I love this glitter, it is so soft like powdered sugar & it's texture is very smooth once you've applied it to your card stock.  I colored around the roses with my markers & let it fade out into the white.

Here's the inside of my card.  I added a layer of Basic Black, Whisper White & Melon Mambo Scallop Dots Ribbon.  I die cut the Rose stem from Old Olive & the bud from Regal Rose and Black Velvet Adhesive Sheets.  I seriously thought about glittering this rose too, but I liked the crisp clean look of just the Black Velvet outline over the Rose.

Fashion Statements

I cut a backing card from Early Espresso, added some patterened paper, Orange Iris Shimmer Sheetz, a hat Peel-Off Sticker & some Lucy Labels for the sentiment on this card.   For the Orange Iris Shimmer Sheetz, I used the Accordion Fancy Label to die cut the shape, embossed it with Elizabeth Craft Designs' new embossing folder called Flower Mosaic, then I used a sanding block on the raised areas to expose some of the white core.  Shimmer Sheetz are so much fun!
The sentiment is from a retired host set called Fashion Statements.  I added a few Blue/Gold Glitter lines to the sides of the sentiment & some Early Espresso Grosgrain Stitched Ribbon.
For the hat, I used the negative portion of the Peel-Off Sticker & here's how I did that.

I took a small piece of a Transfer Sheet to help remove the sticker.  What I am showing in the photo is the Transfer Sheet on top of the sticker sheet.  I used a bone folder to help burnish the little pieces to the Transfer Sheet.

What you see in this picture is the sticker on the Transfer Sheet.  This is now ready to be put onto your prepared Whisper White & Double Sided Adhesive piece.

Now I am transferring the sticker to my prepared white piece.  I rubbed a bone folder over the sticker to help all the little pieces stick to the white & carefully pull back the Transfer Sheet.  If some of the pieces are still stuck to the Transfer Sheet, simply lay your Transfer Sheet back down & rub with your bone folder again.

The sticker is now on my white & is ready for Warm Silk Microfine Glitter & coloring with markers.  After I colored with Tombow markers, I set it aside to dry & then fussy cut around the image.  Please keep in mind that Tombow markers do take a bit longer to dry than alcohol based markers.

For the inside of my card I used the line image of the same Hat Peel-Off Sticker & colored with Tombow Dual Brush Pens.  I used Lucy Label from Karen Burniston's Pop It Ups collection. Did you notice the Lucy Label is upside down?  I CASED that from Kelly Booth, I put the Lucy Label upside down to use it as a table to animate the hat/stand.  My base card is cut from Bordering Blue & I added some patterned paper from my stash on the top & bottom.  I suggest cutting the pattern paper at the same time as you're cutting your base so the pieces are certain to match up.

The sentiment is from Treat Yourself & it's stamped onto a Lucy Label.  I kept the die on the die cut & traced around the edges with a marker, removed the die & added little dots with a different color marker.  I added Blue/Gold Glitter lines where the pattern paper meets the Early Espresso base card.  I added some little flowers from Flourish with Flowers die, I did this to cover up the ink that bled onto my card when it was closed & the hat wasn't completely dry.  HINT: do the coloring first & set it aside a long time to dry before gluing to your card.

I used the little slot die included in the Lucy Label set to cut a hole in the top of the shelf area so I could put the flagpole from Lots Of Pops in there to support the hat.  You can see the flagpole in this side view where I folded the bottom of the flagpole & glued it as a support.  I needed the flagpole to be a bit longer, so I didn't put my cutting plate all the way to the end of the die when I cut it.  By doing this, the end of the flagpole won't cut & I was able to cut it as long as I wanted with my scissors.

Happy Stamping,
Raquel

Riley Challenge #0614

I created this card for the Riley birthday challenge.  This Riley "Learn a lesson from your dog" sentiment cracks me up, and I know that it's not appropriate for everyone - but funny still.  I used a Tempting Turquoise Stampin' Write Marker to doodle around the edges of the sentiment.  I used Karen Burniston's Accordion Fancy Label for the base & Fancy Frame Edges to cut the patterned paper around the edges.  The dog bones are a Sizzix die.

I cut 3 panels from Early Espresso & used the companion dies (included in the set) to cut Real Red & Tempting Turquoise matching shapes- I also used a Chevron embossing folder to add some texture to the Tempting Turquoise where you see Riley "Dog Walker".  I colored Riley with Watercolor Pencils & a Blender Pen, then fussy cut him & added him to the panel with Dimensionals.

I alternated using the scallop edge & straight edge Fancy Frame Edges.

The sentiment on the last panel is from a Riley set called Moose Sayings 2 & I love how many different birthday sentiments are in the set.  I doodled around this sentiment with a Stampin' Write Marker just like I did on the front panel.

And a final close up of the center panel.  I had fun making this card & thanks to Riley for having the challenge.

Happy Stamping,
Raquel

Glitter Swallowtail

The finished size of this card is 5 x 5.  To make the glittered Swallowtail, I stamped Swallowtail on Whisper White using black ink.  Then I adhered a piece of Double Sided Adhesive over the stamped image, removed the release sheet & covered with Warm Diamond Silk Microfine Glitter, shook off the excess & polished the glitter with my finger.  After those steps I am ready to color & believe me that coloring on glitter is FUN!  I received a set of Tombow Dual Brush Pens in Primary colors as a member of the ECD DT (look out for a blog hop next month) and these pens are what I used to color the Swallowtail.  After I finished coloring, I traced the around the edges of the image with a black marker just to make the edges stand out more.  I stamped the sentiment from One In A Million onto a Lucy Label die cut & sponged the edges with Orchid Opulence Classic Ink.

Tombow pens color beautifully on glitter, however they take longer to dry than alcohol based markers.  You can also use Stampin' Write Markers to color on glitter, I have tried them out too and they take a bit longer to dry as well.  I used the blender pen included in the set to blend out the blue around the edges of the Swallowtail image.  It was really hard getting a good photo of all the glitter, but believe me it IS very glittery.  Thanks to Frances Byrne for helping with photo editing.

For the base of the card I used Orchid Opulence card stock to try Karen Burniston's technique featured in her March Designer Challenge where she added a chunk of Lots of Pops onto her card.  For this card I used the Lucy Label & one chunk of Lots of Pops to animate my Fuchsia Silk Microfine Glitter flagpoles with Beautiful Wings Embosslits.  To make the Beautiful Wings Embosslits garland, I used glue dots on the wings to attach them to each other & onto the flagpoles - I even added small rhinestones in the center of each butterfly.  For the glittered butterflies (Small Butterfly #713 from ECD) I cut the bottom layer from patterned paper & the top from Orchid Opulence covered with Double Sided Adhesive which I covered with Fuchsia Silk Microfine Glitter.

I used Agatha Edges to cut the shape into the top & bottom of the card and the flourish too.  The sentiment is from One In A Million stamp set, stamped onto a Lucy Label die cut & I sponged the edges with Orchid Opulence.  To get the patterned paper onto the Lucy Label, I just cut another pop up portion of the Lucy Label & just cut out the front piece.

Garden Bench Woo Hoo!

To make this card, I started off with a River Rock backing card cut at 5 x 10 & scored in the middle.  I added a piece of Brocade Blue embossed with the NEW Lots of Dots embossing folder.  Before adhering that to my backing card, I added a piece of  Gingham Ribbon.  I die cut a piece of patterned paper using the Oval Accordion Card - I nested the largest oval & the next size down to get the stitch marks and ran it through my Big Shot all in one go.  I stamped the image onto Whisper White, colored with Spectrum Noir markers, fussy cut & glued him to the card using pop dots.

I used a Whisper White base to die cut the Garden Bench & another Garden Bench from Brocade Blue.  To die cut the Garden Bench, all you need to do is line up the tabs on the sides of the die with the fold of your card & cut.  For the Brocade Blue bench, I only wanted the arms, so I only needed to snip those parts off & glue it to the white bench.  For the patterned paper behind the bench, I die cut that at the same time as cutting the Whisper White base card so it will all line up perfectly.  I used Agatha Edges on the top & bottom of the pattern paper to get that wonderful curvy edge.  For the top flower patterned Agatha Edge, I used the excess from the bottom that I cut off and just cut again matching the shape & then glued it to the top.

I really love the All Seasons Tree by Karen Burniston!  I cut the trunk from Early Espresso Core'dinations & the foliage from Kiwi Kiss.  To glue the foliage on, I like to put 2-way glue on the back side of the branches & place the foliage on top & adding more glue as needed.  Just remember to add the smaller foliage first, otherwise it will be hidden when you glue the larger foliage on.  I used Fire Opal Gemstone Shimmer Sheetz & the  flower die included in the Garden Bench to cut lots of  flowers.  To cut Shimmer Sheetz with ease, use the Metal Adapter Plate.  The cutting goes pretty quickly as you can cut 3 flowers at a time.  I hope you can see just how gorgeous these are - they are truly stunning!  The tree holds my little owl that I stamped, colored & fussy cut.  The sentiment was stamped, cut out & adhered with pop dots.  I used the grass die from Garden Bench to make 2 little patches of grass in front of the bench - I cut them a little bit smaller....just a little pruning.
